Archaeology & Historic Preservation Month

What is Colorado Archaeology and Historic Preservation Month?

2012 Archaeology & Historic Preservation Month: Connecting Colorado

Archaeology & Historic Preservation Month is a celebration of our state’s heritage.  The month highlights special preservation projects, archaeological talks and prehistoric or historical sites cherished by local residents and visitors.  Events include lectures, the preservation initiatives of local communities, workshops, demonstrations and public displays.

You are invited to experience some of the excitement, discovery, and effort to save some of Colorado’s past.  The theme for this year is “Connecting Colorado“. Many events are scheduled in cities and towns throughout Colorado during May 2012.  All events are sponsored by volunteers from various organizations, state agencies and local governments, as well as by individuals who share their passion for preserving Colorado’s ancient and historic places.

Help spread the word that preserving the past is important.  Saving significant prehistoric and historic places ensures that future generations in Colorado will maintain a connection with our shared cultural legacy.

We are starting to plan for our next Archaeology and Historic Preservation Month in May 2012.  If you have an event you would like featured please take a moment to fill out our Calendar of Events Information form before 4:30pm on March 9, 2012.

Save the Date: May 3, 2012, 6 to 9 p.m.

Kickoff to Archaeology & Historic Preservation Month at the History Colorado Center

On behalf of the historic preservation and archaeology community, we invite you to celebrate Colorado’s rich cultural and historic heritage during Archaeology & Historic Preservation Month. To kick-off the month History Colorado is sponsoring a Thursday night reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Keynote speakers for the event will be David Tryba & Dr. Stephen Lekson. The event will be followed by a weekend co-hosted by various organizations that have partnered with the History Colorado. Come and enjoy hands-on activities that will introduce children and families to the exciting world of archaeology and historic preservation.
