History Colorado Hosts Selma Sunday on March 8th

Denver - On March 8, 1965, faith leaders across the country received an urgent telegram from Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. calling for them to come to Selma, AL in response to the horrific events the previous day when Alabama State troopers attacked civil-rights demonstrators on the Edmund Pettus Bridge just outside Selma.  In the ensuing weeks, thousands responded.

Civic Discussion Focuses on Faith, Justice and the Power of Love

Faith leaders today have been an integral part of the “Black Lives Matter” movement, working to affirm the inherent worth of every person – especially those deemed less important by society.  A special interactive afternoon of exploration, action and connection will be held for people from across the Denver area on Sunday, March 8 at the History Colorado Center, 1200 Broadway in Denver.  From 2-5 PM, the Denver Freedom Riders, the Interfaith Alliance, the Colorado Council of Churches and Coloradans for Justice are sponsoring this event for Denverites to come hear, share and discuss action steps to move this important work forward.

The event is organized by Angela Sanders and Kenny Wiley of the Denver Freedom Riders along with Amanda Henderson from the Interfaith Alliance.  This important civic discussion is FREE to all and hosted by these interested organizations and History Colorado.  For more information about the event and to RSVP please visit:  http://www.historycolorado.org/event/selma-sunday-faith-justice-and-power-love
