A file search is a way to obtain information on specific sites that are located in a specific area, or meet some sort of specified criteria. When the area has been defined, or the criteria specified, that data is used to query Colorado's Cultural Resources Database, which contains information on over 220,000 archaeological, historical and paleontological sites. Those sites that fall within the specified area, or meet the criteria, are returned and passed on to the requestor.
