Hands-On History Summer Camp at the Ute Indian Museum

Join us at Ute Indian Museum this summer for eight weeks of fun camp sessions! Hands-On History provides safe, engaging learning opportunities for elementary & middle school children.

All summer camp sessions are five days long (Monday through Friday) with the exception of the week of June 21st, and each week has a different theme. Space is limited, so sign up today!

Who: Kids ages 6-12 (Max 15 per session)
Where: Ute Indian Museum, 17253 Chipeta Road, Montrose, CO
When: Tuesday-Thursday from June through August, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Cost: $150 per week with automatic tuition assistance available:

40% free/reduced lunch qualification
10% pre-registration 
10% History Buffs
10% museum membership
20% staff discount
We will also offer a 10% discount to those who are part of our Friends of the UIM group.

Weekly Themes

Week 1: June 12th - 16th
Create! Artistic Dabblers (1st - 5th graders)

If it's artsy, we’re going to try it! Bring your own crafts or learn new ones as we investigate the history of and explore the world of art!  

Week 2: June 21st - 23rd
Breathe! Caring for Yourself (5th - 9th graders)

Take a deep breath. We all need a little self care so let's explore some ways we can take care of ourselves. 

Week 3: June 26th - 30th
Explore! Mother Earth Rules (1st - 5th graders)

Explore nature, from the animals to the plants, as we learn to appreciate our Mother Earth and all she provides!

Week 4: July 10th - 14th
Older Explorers! (8th - 12th graders)

Let's go Hiking! Explore the Mysteries of our History!

Week 5: July 17th - 21st
Rock On! Fossils and Stone (1st - 5th graders)

Rocks are all around us and they are cool as heck! From fossils to precious stones, explore the wonders of rocks!

Week 6: July 24th - 28th
Dig! Jr. Archaeologist (1st - 5th graders)

Explore the history around us and the science behind studying the people of the past.

Week 7: July 31st - August 4th
Splash! Wacky Water Week (1st - 5th graders)

Let's wade through the wacky and wild history of water! Water games, water snacks, and water fun will highlight the importance, conservation and fight for water!

Week 8: August 7th - 11th
Play! Sports and Games (5th - 9th graders)
