A Building Denver Mezzanine Art Installation

Local photographer Armando Geneyro connects the built environment with the people who shape its meaning. A versatile photographer, Armando specializes in events coverage and photojournalism. His passion for street photography allows him to connect to his subjects and immerse himself in different cultures.

Armando Geneyro 04 — *Omega Psi Phi.*

*Colfax and Logan on MLK Day*

This photo was taken in front of the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception during Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2019.

After moving to Denver, I discovered that Denver is well-known across the country for their MLK celebration; by the early 1990s, the event was one of the largest in the country. But it wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for the persistence of Wellington and Wilma Webb. The former Mayor and First Lady of Denver fought for several years to get Colorado to finally recognize MLK’s birthday as a state holiday in 1984.

Armando Geneyro 01 — *Sunday Rituals.*

In 2014, I started working with DJ Low Key at his weekly parties at the Meadowlark Bar. In the summertime, Sundays on the Meadowlark patio was the place to be — nothing but good music and good people at the party named Goodness. For five straight summers, I documented every Sunday. At the time of this photo, Cold Crush was still open across the street, so that intersection would always be lively. On this day, you could hear the music from both venues, and as I went out onto the block I happened to run into these two getting caught up in the summer vibes.
