Create an epic day (or week!) worthy of this momentous occasion.
This fine state could use a break. Colorado deserves a party unlike any other this year. Starting Monday, July 27, we're letting the good times roll all the way to the big day on Saturday, August 1. Everyone in Colorado is invited to celebrate their state with a birthday bundle of festive occasions, both online and in person. Our annual free day at all eight of our museums throughout the state, including the History Colorado Center in downtown Denver, makes its triumphant return.
For the first time ever, Colorado Day festivities will also include a full week of digital delights shared below. A combination of live virtual events—like our online Birthday Bash, bursting with fun and games—and a Spirit Week of playful prompts on our Facebook and Instagram guarantee that this year's celebration will be one for all and one for the record books. Special guest Governor Jared Polis will pop into our social media channels, and our five members of the State Historian’s Council will describe their favorite things about the state on our blog. New videos showcase the great outdoors, while perfect recipes and downloadable crafts are also available.
Just what is Spirit Week?
We've joined forces with Betterish to bring you another week of spirit. Betterish began hosting virtual spirit weeks throughout the pandemic as a way to connect people during a time of social distancing... to make us feel "togetherish." It's your classic spirit week but made better(ish) with a mix of playful, action-driven, empathy-building prompts that unfold on Facebook and Instagram. We'll be announcing the themes on social media soon, so be sure to follow us @historycolorado and #betterishtogetherish.
Emily Hope Dobkin is hosting live from The Meet Cart. The Meet Cart is a mobile structure where unfamiliar people become unexpected pals---it's where strangers meet, greet and play through games, prompts and activities. Amidst the pandemic, Betterish has been bringing The Meet Cart to cyberspace as a to make virtual experiences more fun, more interactive, and as a creative way for people to socially connect during a time of social distancing.
If you’re attending this bash, you probably know Colorado…but you probably don’t know each other.
We’ll play a game to change that while also celebrating all things Colorado.
The Centennial State celebrates its 144th birthday on Saturday, August 1! We wouldn't miss it for anything and are offering free museum admission from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Visitors will need to reserve their tickets online in advance so that we can manage capacity and keep everyone safe.
The History Colorado collection is preserved for future generations but can also be reproduced, researched, and used for other exciting things including creative ideas for crafting, coloring, and entertainment. Download and have fun! To make a donation or support the collection and our services please click here.
