Crowdfunding for Written on the Land: Your FAQs

What is Written on the Land?

Written on the Land: Ute Voices, Ute History is our forthcoming exhibit telling the stories of Colorado’s longest continuous residents from the perspectives and in the voices of today’s Ute people. You can learn more about the exhibit at h-co.org/writtenontheland.

What is a crowdfunding campaign?

You can help us keep the stories of Ute people alive by contributing to our crowdfunding campaign! Crowdfunding is a way projects can be supported by many smaller donations made by a large number of people, typically online.

How do I give?

Go to h-co.org/utevoices and click the orange “Donate” button. If you want to encourage others to join you in giving, you might consider creating a team (see details below).

Give between October 9 and November 13 and your donation will be doubled, thanks to a matching challenge by The Abarca Family Foundation.

What do you mean my donation will be matched or doubled?

When we collectively raise $10,000, The Abarca Family Foundation will generously donate $10,000 to this exhibit!

How much time do I have to participate?

The campaign will run October 9 through November 13. We suggest you give today so you don’t forget!

Do I have to donate $10 or more? Do I have to donate at the reward amounts? If I give $50 or more, can I still get a coupon for museum attendance?

There is a $10 minimum if you donate on Crowdrise due to credit card processing fees. Those who donate at the amounts we’re providing rewards for will receive the awards at that level and below.

You are welcome to donate any amount through our website to support our programs.

Do I need to use a Facebook account to give?

If you are setting up a team, you can sign up using your Facebook account or select "Sign Up" after "Don't have an account?" and fill in the fields below to set up an account with Crowdrise.

If you are making a donation, you can use your account or continue as a guest.

What is a team? How do I create one? How do I join my friends’ team?

On the main page, click the “Join Campaign” button and you'll then have the option to organize a team or join an existing one. If you don't want to join a team, you can select "General Donations" in the "Select a Team" drop down.

If you’d like to lead a team of your very own, click on the “Create Your Own Team” button to set up your campaign page. If you use your Facebook account, you'll need to add a title and description (see next question below for sample text). When prompted to add photos, select "Skip" to use the photos and videos we provide. Share the link to the page with your family and friends via email and social media and invite them to join your team using the instructions below.

If you'd like to join an existing team, click the “Join a Team” button, then choose the team you’d like to join. The funds you contribute are reflected on your page, as well as your team's page, and the main crowdfunding page as well.

How do I share my team page?

Go to your team’s campaign page and click on any of the social icons to share with your supporters on Facebook and Twitter.

You can also cut and paste your campaign URL (the web address at the top of your web browser) into your favorite social media platform anywhere you would post an update or into emails. Feel free to use the images on the campaign page in your posts or emails. If you want to share the videos, here is a link to the YouTube playlist where you can find them all: h-co.org/Utevideos

Individuals receive rewards based on their donation amount. Teams as a whole receive bragging rights.

Why didn’t I get my rewards when I donated?

Rewards will be distributed at the end of the campaign.

How will names be listed on the donor wall in the exhibit? Can I opt out of putting my name in the exhibit?

The name used to make the donation is what will be used on the wall. If you'd prefer to be anonymous, please email us at hello@historycolorado.org.

What does the money go to?

Donations support a variety of expenses including conservation of artifacts, design, construction and fabrication of the exhibition. The Written on the Land exhibition has been a process almost six years in the making, in collaboration with the tribes. Your support demonstrates that you want this work to continue well after the exhibit opens.
