Start Your Research

Our research tools are a great place to begin your journey. Photograph indexes are available online or in the Janis Falkenberg Reading Room. Peruse the Collection Highlights in the Online Collection to see some amazing items from Colorado’s history.

We recommend searching our Online Collection and Books and Serials Collections Catalog databases using a variety of search terms and spellings. You will be able to find many of our artifacts, manuscript collections, and photographs listed in the databases. Finding aids for most of the manuscript collections (MSS numbers) are available in the Online Collection. If you would like to view an item in person, take note of the Object ID, call number, and/or MSS and file folder information for materials you would like to view, and then set up an appointment via the Research Request Form.

Research Center staff are available during open hours to help guide your journey. Fill out a Research Request Form, call 303-866-2305, or email cosearch@state.co.us for assistance. To request a digital image of an item in the collection, then please fill out a Reproduction Request and email it to photos@state.co.us. Research or reproduction fees may apply.
