AHPM Month Poster Contest Submittal

May is Colorado Archaeology and Historic Preservation Month, and for several years professionals from around the state came together to design a poster to honor and celebrate Colorado’s preservation work. While professionals are pretty smart, the people, places, and things that we preserve are important to everyone! This year, we're looking to the future and asking YOU to find materials around your home to design Colorado’s AHPM poster.

Submissions are due Friday, May 22!

To submit your poster, please go to the contest page.

Preservation is about protecting and honoring the people, places, and things from the past. Think about a place that represents something important in the past. For example, the oldest building in your area, an important spot where people had a meeting, an old house that doesn’t have any walls, a wall of rock art, an ancestral pueblo.

Having trouble coming up with a place? Do some research! Here are some websites to try.

Once you have your place, finish this sentence: This place matters because…

Create a design that represents your place and the sentence you came up with. The image/poster should be no larger than 18 inches x 24 inches (1296 x 1728 pixels). Please upload your digital images as a .jpg, .pdf, or .png. All digital submissions should be no less than 300 dpi.

Try to use as few words as possible, but include a good title or catchphrase and 3-5 important facts about your place. To make your poster, use materials commonly found in your home, photographs that you or someone you know took, or original artwork you created (for example: a drawing or painting).

If you have any questions, contact the State Archaeologist and Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer - Dr. Holly Norton at holly.norton@state.co.us.

Posters will be judged in three groups: High School, Middle School (or Junior High School), and Elementary

inners in each category become a part of 2020’s Colorado AHPM poster series to be featured on History Colorado’s website and social media.

All participants will be displayed on History Colorado’s website. A physical display of all entries will be scheduled for a later date.
