The Buffalo Soldiers and Service in Times of Injustice

Online Borderlands Talk

Join us on Zoom as we move our great history talks online. In this lecture, Dr. Michael Sawyer will present "The Buffalo Soldiers and Service in Times of Injustice."

After the Civil War, Congress established six all-black regiments (consolodated to four shortly after) to help rebuild the country after the Civil War. One of these units, the 9th cavalry of the United States Army, was garrisoned at Fort Garland from 1876-1879.

Dr. Michael Sawyer is Assistant Professor of Race, Ethnicity, and Migration Studies and the Department of English at Colorado College. He was recently appointed Distinguished Visiting Professor of English and Fine Arts at the United States Air Force Academy and is the Founder and Director of the Africana Intellectual Project at Colorado College. In March, Sawyer published his most recent monograph, "Black Minded: The Political Philosophy of Malcom X."

The event is open to the public with a suggested donation of $5.00. Registration is required.
