State-Approved Museums and Curatorial Repositories

Archaeology & Preservation Webinar Series

History Colorado’s State-Approved Museum and Curatorial Repository Program enables County, and municipally supported museums/repositories in our State to hold archaeological and paleontological collections locally. By State law all archaeological artifacts and fossils found on any State, County or local public lands belongs to the State of Colorado. However rather than transferring these collections to Denver (History Colorado), the aim of this program is to keep these collections within the hands of local communities - close to where they originated. This enables local communities to then more fully appreciate and manage the own heritage’s collections. This webinar will provide an overview of the program as well as how local governments might support and collaborate with their local museums and repositories on new possible outreach projects.
