Rumors of Bloomers

Rumors of Bloomers at the Center for Colorado Women’s History explores women’s experiences as expressed through undergarments. Using rarely displayed objects – such as corsets, bloomers, swimming costumes, petticoats, and Mother Hubbard gowns – Rumors of Bloomers highlights the ways “unmentionables” have given form and shape to bodies, while also expressing identity, autonomy, agency, and protest.

Visitors to Rumors of Bloomers will be tasked with considering how women’s undergarments have liberated or controlled, enhanced or concealed, supported or restricted, while also uncovering mysteries, myths, and facts that have been historically kept under covers.

How to see Rumors of Bloomers: Visitors can independently experience a portion of Rumors of Bloomers with purchase of a General Admission ticket to the museum, available anytime during our public hours.

Visitors also have the option to purchase tickets to the speciality Bloomers Tour to experience a deeper dive of Rumors of Bloomers through a docent-led experience that spans about 45 minutes. Visitors will venture through the historic house to view additional rooms and artifacts part of Rumors of Bloomers. This experience is perfect for visitors looking to better understand the mysteries, myths, and facts about historic undergarments. Bloomers Tours are on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 2:30 p.m. Tickets for these tours are $15 for members and $20 for non-members but capacity is limited so advance purchase is recommended. To reserve a space, purchase a ticket online or in person at the Center for Colorado Women’s History.
