We lead the way in offering access to cultural and heritage resources of Colorado and in fostering understanding through authentic, diverse perspectives. Our mission is to create a better future for Colorado by inspiring wonder in our past.
As the top cultural organization focused on all of Colorado, it’s important to us that our state’s rich history is available to all—so thank you for visiting.
Through our network of museums, we offer a variety of interactive exhibits, programs for adults and kids, special events and cultural performances, and a research center with a vast collection of books, photography, documents, artifacts, and much more.
We are Colorado’s largest cultural organization focused on preserving places important to our communities, and the only one in the state with a historian’s council, which is called to advise and help capture the many voices of the entire state. We take pride in our architectural and archaeological heritage and provide leadership and support to our partners in archaeology and historic preservation. In fact, we’re the largest preservation grant program in the country!
We make Colorado’s history accessible, share powerful stories of our past, explore complex and sometimes untold histories of our communities, honor our treasured memories, and create vibrant communities.
As a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, History Colorado relies on community support. We’re thankful to the hundreds of volunteers and donors who’ve supported us. If you too are interested in helping us to create a better Colorado, learn how you can get involved here.
We have an impressive group of leaders and are governed by a Board of Directors appointed by the governor. To learn more about our highly skilled, talented, and diverse group of leaders, read their bios here.
It’s a pleasure to share with you the many wonders that have made Colorado what it is today. I invite you to visit one of our museums or historic sites around the state or the History Colorado Center in Denver. Each of our sites is a window into the stories and cultures that make Colorado unique.
We are Colorado.
