History Colorado Center

We are closing some of our doors out of caution and care for our community. The museum and the Stephen H. Hart Research Center at the History Colorado Center are now closed to in-person visits while Denver is under its current level of public-health guidelines. Find more information on our Safe and Welcome page.

As we navigate this unusual holiday season, we’re here to help you shop safely for your nearest and dearest. You can shop History Colorado’s collection on Etsy, and all of our gift shops across Colorado are planning to remain open with precautions, including the shop at the History Colorado Center, El Pueblo History Museum, and the Center for Colorado Women’s History, which is now open Fridays and Saturdays, 11:30 a.m.–3 p.m.

Artifacts, stories, and art intermingle to tell the tale of Colorado and the American West. The museum is designed for multi-generational audiences and consists of over fifteen exhibits spanning four floors, capturing the pioneering and individualistic spirit of Colorado.

Colorado’s story is constantly evolving, and new exhibitions and displays American Democracy: A Great Leap Of Faith, Hecho en ColoradoWhat’s Your Story?, Women Behaving Badly, Game Changers and "Merciless Indian Savages" bridge the gap between the history of this great state and its impact on the here and now.

Great place for all ages

"Interactive displays that document the history of Colorado ... the good times, hard times and disturbing times. Honest and comprehensive museum." - November 2019, TripAdvisor

A lot more than expected

"Prior to going, I was thinking this would just be another museum, boy was I wrong. Very well put together. Enjoyed seeing a place for the young to play and learn. The thought that went into the exhibits were really something else. We enjoyed the way environmental issues were addressed without downgrading anyone's intelligence." - September 2019, TripAdvisor
