Join us at Woodruff Memorial Library in La Junta for Hands-on History! Hands-On History provides exciting educational experiences for students (grades 1-6) when they are not in school.

Who: Kids grades 1st - 6th

When:  June 10 -July 26 *no camp July 1st - 5th* from  8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Where:  Woodruff Memorial Library in La Junta, 522 Colorado Ave La Junta, CO 81050

Cost:  $125/week per student Additional Tuition Assistance Available.

Weekly Themes:

June 10-14: Colorado Time Machine
Join us as we travel back in time to follow the bison and learn skills to maintain our homestead!  Experience the hands-on processes people in the past used to create everyday items. Campers will dive hands-first into history as they learn to make their own toys, create light without electricity, build homes without nails, and explore many other fun historical activities!

June 17-21: Full STEAM Ahead!
From wagons to trains, telegraph to telephone, explore technology & engineering as it has evolved over the years!  Campers will “move” through history as they explore how people used Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math to survive and thrive throughout history!

June 24-28: Abuelita’s Kitchen
Our abuelitas (grandmothers) are sharing their favorite recipes and we need your help to prepare them! Join us as we learn more about how local produce influences the foods our families prepare and let’s sample the traditional foods enjoyed in the Arkansas Valley.

July 8-12: Get Ready…Get Set…LeGO!
Hey architects and engineers! Get your hard hats on for some extreme Lego building! Learn the history behind one of the world’s most famous toys and participate in some fun lego building challenges. 

July 15-19:I <3 La Junta!
How much do you know about the city you live in? Come explore our history as we meet at the junction of the Santa Fe and Navajo trails to learn about the people and industries that helped build our community.  

July 22-26:Camp Carnival
The carnival is coming and YOU are the main attraction! Let's learn about the historical relevance of your favorite carnival activities while showcasing your creative ingenuity. Join our final week as campers create their own carnival stations and have the opportunity to showcase their talents for friends & family!

Who: Kids grades 1st - 6th

When:  April 12 - May 17, from  8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Where:  Woodruff Memorial Library in La Junta, 522 Colorado Ave La Junta, CO 81050

Cost:  Base Price:  $150 for 6 weeks ($25/day). For families who qualify for Free/Reduced Lunch: $90 for 6  weeks ($15/day). Additional Tuition Assistance Available.

Weekly Themes:

Art Adventures:  
Students will embark on a weekly adventure down art history lane, learning about a variety of historic and contemporary artists.  Participants will explore new art techniques and experiment with different materials in a fun, creative and safe environment!

Colorado Changemakers:
Colorado has a rich history built on the lives of impactful and brilliant people. In this class students will engage in hands-on activities inspired by the extraordinary lives of famous women who changed Colorado's history, making Colorado what it is today.  

Journeys at the Junction:  
Let’s take a journey as we learn more about the history of La Junta, including the buildings, the people and the traditions.  Every class will be unique as we explore our town, welcome guest speakers, and celebrate the beauty of our community!

Fun and Fitness:
“We like to move it, move it!”  Join us as we participate in wellness activities that encourage movement and mindfulness. Students will be introduced to physical and emotional self regulation strategies through a variety of fun and engaging exercises and games.
