2015 Colorado Preserve America Youth Summit

Since 2008, the History Colorado State Historical Fund has served as a major funder for the Colorado Preserve America Youth Summit, an award-winning educational program designed to engage middle and high school students in heritage tourism, economic revitalization and historic preservation.

Following the continued success of the Youth Summit program in Colorado, the National Park Service has encouraged the nationwide expansion of the program, with Colorado serving as a national model.  This year, History Colorado continues its involvement through funding of the Saving Colorado’s Special Places Youth Summits, hosted by Conservation Legacy, a nationally recognized program that has worked with more than 1500 students in the past seven years.  In partnership with the Southwest Conservation Corps, Conservation Legacy will hold six summits and two teacher trainings over the next two years.  Alumni of the Youth Summit program have demonstrated significant leadership, advocating on their own for historic places, implementing heritage tourism in their communities, running for local government, and even taking their experience to lobby for preservation on the State and National level.
