Argo Tunnel and Mill - Newhouse Tunnel and Argo Mill - Newhouse Tunnel

Clear Creek County

The 1913 Argo Mill is an iconic structure in the Idaho Springs viewshed. It represents the 19th and early 20th century Rocky Mountain Mining boom to millions of visitors who pass by on Interstate 70. The Mill has suffered the effects of wind, weather, and lack of basic maintenance for decades.

The new owners, Argo Holdings, need to take immediate action to protect the exterior fabric of the Mill, cladding, and windows, and to address structural concerns in the wood frame portion of the Mill. This project will produce the detailed analysis and drawings which will ensure that these critical needs are being addressed in accordance with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards. This is the first step toward a broader restoration and rehabilitation project which aims to contribute to Idaho Springs’ heritage tourism.

This property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
