Bonfils-Stanton Belmar Farm Estate Outbuildings (Caretaker’s Cottage)

Jefferson County

Once a part of the sprawling estate of Denver Post heiress May Bonfils-Stanton, the Caretaker’s Cottage is one of the few remaining original buildings at the Lakewood Heritage Center located in Jefferson County.

Bonfils-Stanton Belmar Farm Estate Outbuildings (Caretaker’s Cottage)

Constructed around 1910, the single-story, wood-framed building came from a kit, most likely from the Aladdin Company, and was built from pieces that were shipped cross-country by train.  In the 1970s, the City of Lakewood acquired the property and used it as museum offices and storage space from the 1980s through the early 2000s.  The Caretaker’s Cottage has deteriorated over time, but, ever-determined to preserve the property, the City of Lakewood’s Heritage, Culture and the Arts Division will use funding from the State Historical Fund to rehabilitate the interior and preserve the exterior of this important local landmark.
