The Center, built in 1936, was designed by John Gaw Meem.
Its design is a blend of the regional Santa Fe style and modernism. The founder of the Fine Arts Center was Alice Bemis Taylor, an important local philanthropist.
Restoration work was conducted with the aid of a State Historical Fund grant.
