Eagle County Ute Trails

Eagle County

Though they were significant routes for some of Colorado’s earliest inhabitants, the Ute trails in the Saguache Mountains and White River Plateau have seen little preservation or documentation in recent years.

Eagle County Ute Trails

Eagle County Ute Trails

Originally used by the Ute people from late fall through the spring as a link to important river crossings and seasonal destinations, the study of these trails promise to provide more insight into early life in Eagle County, as the trails have already produced more than one hundred metal trade good and glass seed bead artifacts.  In order to preserve the ancestral lands of the Ute Tribes and learn more about their nomadic way of life, the Dominquez Archaeological Research Group, Inc. will use funding from the State Historical Fund to study and record findings from the trails.
