George W. Wyatt Elementary School-Hyde Park School

Denver County

The George W. Wyatt Elementary School (historically known as the Hyde Park School), which sits at the heart of the Cole neighborhood in Denver, was built in 1889 and still operates today, serving 1st through 8th grade students.

The school was constructed by Robert Roeschlaub, who designed and built numerous commercial, public, and residential properties throughout Colorado from 1873 to 1912. A grant from SHF will allow Wyatt Academy to replace its windows with historically appropriate windows for appearance, safety, and energy efficiency reasons. The grant will also help pay for repairs to the masonry on the building’s western elevation.  With this grant, Wyatt Academy will move closer to recapturing its historical character through appearance, design, and materials—providing the students and the community a living, functional connection to its historic past.
