Leis-Abbett Ranch near Platteville was homesteaded in 1875 by Clyde Abbett's great-grandfather, George Leis. Unfortunately, he had homesteaded on railroad property and had to purchase the land from Denver Pacific Railway and Telegraph Co. The Abbetts continue to grow corn, hay and raise Angus cattle on the old homestead.
