Starkville Central School
Las Animas County
The Starkville Central School is important for its role in educating Starkville’s children from 1881 to 1965.
The Starkville Central School is the largest of three schools that once served this small historic coal mining community and the only one standing today. The school is particularly notable for its association with the educational policies promoted by CF&I’s Sociological Department between 1901 and 1921. Nomination of the Starkville Central School was funded through a Certified Local Government grant awarded to the Town of Starkville in 2017.
