Military Service Collection & Veterans Oral History Project

At the turn of the 20th century, History Colorado boasted "the most valuable collection of war relics of any state in the Union." The nucleus of this collection was secured by Civil War veteran Cecil A. Deane. Another highlight of History Colorado's military holdings is the 10th Mountain Division collection. Some 1,500 objects document the experiences of the men at Colorado's Camp Hale and their contribution to World War II from 1942-45. The Military History collection is actively collecting items around Military Service (including family and community life) after 1950.

We invite you to help History Colorado preserve stories of service and sacrifice.

Who? Whether you were born in Colorado, were stationed here during your service, or are a longtime resident, we want to capture your story of military service.

How? Come visit us at the History Colorado Center to share your story in our on-site sound studio or contact our curator to be connected with a volunteer near you. We use the latest technologies and standards to ensure your accounts are preserved for posterity.

You can visit the History Colorado Center in person at 1200 Broadway, Denver, Colorado, or you can contact our curator via phone (303.866.3634) or via email at chris.juergens@state.co.us

Why? Your story will become part of our military collections and will help document Coloradan military service. We welcome stories from the Korean War to the Global War on Terror, with particular emphasis on service in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

Thank you becoming a storyteller of our times!
