Artifact is the front door of the blacksmith business with farm brands burned into the wood. The branding iron imprints document early 1900 farm brands in the Boulder valley.
Early 1900 farm brands in the Boulder Valley are recorded with their imprint burned into the door from his blacksmith shop. George Atkinson built two buildings in Niwot to serve the community and the Boulder County Landmarked buildings still stand with businesses in them today. One building was his blacksmith shop (1923) and the other building (1927) was a garage to work on an increasing number of Model T's.
Most of the early businesses in Niwot provided services needed by farmers in the area. George Atkinson built his blacksmith shop in Niwot on Second Avenue in 1923. He was a skilled welder who could repair almost any piece of farm equipment. Branding-iron orders were always tested by burning their imprint on his massive front doors which documents the history of brands.
