History Colorado Center holiday happenings: Free kids admission, new Living West exhibit!

DENVER — Families looking for fun activities to do during the holidays can rejoice! The History Colorado Center is offering FREE admission for children 12-years-old and under, which includes access into its new hands-on exhibit, Living West.

Getting free access for kids to all the experiential exhibits at the History Colorado Center is simple. Just view the Living West activity booklet at HistoryColoradoCenter.org/families/livingwest -- kids who come wearing their easy-to-make grasshopper clothespin get free museum admission!  And, if you are a Denver Water customer, bring a billing statement copy to receive a $2 discount on an adult ticket.

The History Colorado Center features interactive and experiential exhibits that delight every age. In Destination Colorado, take a joy ride across the plains in a real Model T. Soar off a virtual ski jump in Colorado Stories. Try on the Barrel Man’s barrel in Denver A to Z. And, experience the epic “Black Sunday” dust storm of the 1930s Dust Bowl in Living West. Enjoy live museum theater in each gallery as well as crafts and activities -- all included in the cost of a general admission ticket.* Upcoming performances include:

·         Sat., Dec. 21:  The Life of a Buffalo Soldier, 11:20 a.m.

·         Mon., Dec. 23:  Top Hogs, 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

·         Thurs., Dec. 26:  Native American Beading presentation, 12:30 p.m.

·         Fri., Dec. 27:  Koffi Togo West African Drumming, 12:30 p.m.

·         Sat. , Dec. 28:  Colorado Mestizo Dancers, 11:30 a.m.

·         Sun., Dec. 29:  Storytelling with Lisa Mumpton, 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Make a day of it! Try the delicious and affordable lunch options offered in the museum’s Café Rendezvous and explore the unique Colorado-made items featured in the gift shop. The History Colorado Center is open Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Cost for general admission is $12 adults, $10 students/seniors 65+, $8 children 6-12; children 5 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased online.
