Teachers and Students learn about Rocky Mountain National Park this April at History Colorado

Denver - On Saturday, April 25, History Colorado will welcome educators from across the state for a teacher workshop based on the new exhibit We ♥ Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP). The exhibit celebrates the centennial of one of Colorado’s most treasured parks and is part of the year-long statewide commemoration of the park.

The workshop will be held from 8:30 A.M.–3:30 P.M. and promises to be a great day of learning. The course will explore primary sources on national parks and offer and take-home resources for classroom use. It will also highlight resources in the special collections at History Colorado and the Library of Congress.

Teachers who register for this workshop will walk away with tools for engaging students in conservations about Colorado, national parks, water issues, and the preservation of historic landmarks as well as how to use the National Register of Historic Places to support literacy in the classroom.

The cost is $25, and a light breakfast and lunch will be provided. There is also the opportunity for a .5 graduate credit hour from Adams State University. Space is limited, and registration is required. For more information or to register online, visit http://www.historycolorado.org/event/rocky-mountain-national-park-teacher-workshop

The workshop is a great way for teachers to prepare for Rocky Mountain National Park Student Day, to be held at the History Colorado Center on Monday, May 11 and Wednesday, May 13. The two-day, hands-on learning event will host over 1,300 students from Denver Public Schools. Students and teachers will learn about the history and purpose of America’s National Parks, including Colorado’s, and how to preserve and protect them. Students will have the opportunity to participate in interactive sessions and learning stations set up around the History Colorado Center, including at the new Rocky Mountain National Park Centennial Exhibit.
