History Colorado joins the Americas Latino Eco Festival

DENVER -  History Colorado is proud to partner with the Americas Latino Eco Festival for Americas Latino Eco Festival Family Day on October 17. As part of the three-day event, the largest environmental festival of its kind, History Colorado will join that discussion by providing a local historical context to contemporary issues of environmentalism.

On October 17, starting at 9:00am, students will arrive at the History Colorado for Climate of Hope Youth Leadership Training, a four hour session that is designed to provide participants with an understanding of climate change, its physical and cultural dimensions and provide a basis for community engagement. The class will provide students with techniques to communicate climate change to a diverse community.

“Our exhibits explore the important relationship of people, water and the environment throughout Colorado’s history,” say Liz Cook, Environmental Educator at History Colorado.  “We want to inspire people to think about possible solutions for today’s environmental issues, not just in Colorado, but around the world,  we are pleased to be a part of the conference and add historical context to this important topic.”

History Colorado invites festival goers to discover our state’s rich environmental history, to make local connections to the global stories shared at the festival. Conference attendees are invited to visit Living West, and hear the story of the San Luis People’s Ditch, one of the oldest irrigation systems in Colorado in a short museum theater performance by Angel Vigil. Guests can also explore Colorado’s diverse environmental legacy in the story of Camp Moreno in the We ♥ RMNP exhibit and El Movimiento, an insight into the Chicano movement.
