History Colorado certified as "Service Enterprise" for commitment to volunteers
DENVER, Colo. (August 28, 2018) ━ History Colorado is now better positioned to meet its mission through the power of volunteers. The organization has announced that it has become certified as a “Service Enterprise.” The Service Enterprise Initiative is a national change-management program led by Points of Light, which helps organizations use their volunteer forces more strategically and effectively.
After 18 months, History Colorado has completed the extensive assessment, logged 20 hours of training and consulting, and held internal planning sessions to better integrate volunteers in day-to-day operations. Spark the Change Colorado, formerly Metro Volunteers, is bringing the Service Enterprise Initiative to Colorado and has been instrumental in awarding the certification. History Colorado has become the ninth nonprofit in the state to receive the status.
As a certified Service Enterprise, History Colorado is well equipped to engage volunteers and leverage their skills across all levels of the organization, including the History Colorado Center in Denver and eight Community Museums across the state, to more effectively meet the needs of the community and increase the impact of its mission. In the 2018 fiscal calendar year, History Colorado’s volunteer program contributed 37,087 hours, for $993,194 in economic impact.
“Our goal is to engage volunteers in meaningful roles at History Colorado,” says Emily Dobish, Director of Volunteer Engagement. “Service Enterprise has given us the tools to leverage the time and talent of volunteers and to deliver on our mission. Volunteers are deeply integrated into our strategic plan and allow us to maximize our capacity to maintain and increase services to our statewide community."
