Grant-Humphreys Mansion and The Day-Of Weddings + Events to Host “Pride & Unprejudice”

A Celebration for Engaged and Engaged-Curious LGBTQ+ Couples

DENVER, May 14, 2019 – The Grant-Humphreys Mansion and The Day-Of Weddings + Events invite engaged and engaged-curious LGBTQ+ couples to an event celebrating love and wedding planning. Navigating the complex maze of wedding venues, florists, caterers and photographers is a challenge in itself, and for LGBTQ+ couples there can be the added concern about whether a venue or vendor is accepting and inclusive. In honor of Pride Month and to unofficially kick off Denver Pridefest weekend, Pride & Unprejudice will offer couples a chance to meet with a wide array of vendors who support and serve the LGBTQ+ community. The celebration will take place on Thursday, June 13, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the Grant-Humphreys Mansion at 770 Pennsylvania Street, in Denver.

“We are thrilled to sponsor Pride & Unprejudice again with The Day-Of,” said Rita Rollman, director of the Grant-Humphreys Mansion. “As a historic property that hosts nearly 100 weddings a year on-site, we want the LGBTQ+ community to know that the Grant-Humphreys Mansion is committed to providing an inclusive, judgement-free space for all nuptials.”

Attendees at Pride & Unprejudice will be treated to complimentary specialty drinks and beverages from Mile High Spirits and Colorado Cider Company, delicious appetizers and dessert samples from Three Tomatoes Catering and Valhalla Cakes, a free mini engagement session with photographer Loria Carnefix, great music from Dancin’ Shoes DJ, and special entertainment and performances throughout the evening.

“The main mission of The Day-Of is to be radically inclusive and supportive of all who wish to have an awesome experience planning their wedding,” said Courtney Hayes-Jurcheck, founder of The Day-Of Weddings + Events. “As one of the top LGBTQ+ wedding planners in Denver, we strive to exclusively work with companies that support this amazing community. We collaborated with Grant-Humphreys Mansion on Pride & Unprejudice because we share a common vision.”

According to a recent study by The Knot and Q. Digital, same-sex couples actively seek to partner with professionals and vendors who are equality minded, with 30% of female and 11% of male couples admitting they were turned away from vendors or left feeling uncomfortable due to their LGBTQ identity.

Recently married at the Grant-Humphreys Mansion, Danielle Starr offered a comment about her experience at the previous Pride & Unprejudice party and her subsequent wedding, “I never imagined as a lesbian that I would be able to plan my wedding without the anxiety that it might not be possible at certain locations or with certain vendors. Pride & Unprejudice made me realize that we have support. All of the vendors and staff were the most welcoming and inclusive group of people I’ve had the pleasure of working with.

The Grant-Humphreys Mansion and Day-Of Weddings + Events are both certified, LGBTQ-friendly vendors, after completing training classes that included sensitivity awareness, business coaching and facility features for an accepting event location. The Grant-Humphreys Mansion, a historic property of History Colorado, also was named the “Best Venue for an LGBTQ-Friendly Event” by Unique Venues last fall for its inclusivity and dedication to providing a safe venue for LGBTQ+ couples.

“We are forever grateful to those individuals and businesses supporting our union and laying to rest the constant anxiety members of our community face daily; especially on a day that should be nothing but bliss. We are so grateful for everyone who worked on making our wedding the nuptials of our dreams,” added Starr.

Other LGBTQ+ inclusive vendors will include Al’s Formal Wear, Hooray! Rentals, Peak Beverage Reverie Floral, Sea Monstrosity Pictures and Table Curated. Prizes and giveaways from vendors, including a hotel stay, will be given away throughout the evening.
