DENVER, Aug. 4 —History Colorado has announced the funding of 43 grants for historic preservation projects, totaling more than $4.4 million through the State Historical Fund (SHF) grants program. This is the first in a series of grant award rounds that will take place during History Colorado’s fiscal year 2014-15. In the last two decades, History Colorado through SHF has invested more than $262 million in more than 4,000 preservation projects in Colorado communities in all 64 counties.
On July 15, 2014, History Colorado CEO Ed Nichols testified before the Colorado State Joint Legislative Audit Committee about recent recommendations coming out of History Colorado’s performance audit conducted this spring.
Fort Garland, Colo. – We are pleased to announce exciting news. The Trinchera Blanca Foundation, the local affiliate of The Moore Charitable Foundation founded by Louis Bacon, has pledged a generous matching grant of up to $15,000 to History Colorado’s Fort Garland Museum. We are depending upon Coloradans' willingness to pledge support by August 31st, 2014. Every dollar will help Fort Garland Museum fulfill its mission of engaging and connecting local students, visitors and community partners to the local history. With The Trinchera Blanca Foundation’s challenge, and the community’s support, we will continue our tradition of bringing quality programming to the youth of the San Luis Valley.
DENVER — History Colorado will host Dr. Richard Kurin, the Smithsonian’s Under Secretary for History, Art, and Culture, for a presentation and book signing of his most recent work, The Smithsonian’s History of America in 101 Objects.

DENVER —May is Archaeology and Historic Preservation Month! Coloradans throughout the state are celebrating their historic built environments, archaeological relics and local history. This year’s theme is Heritage at Work, in part to recognize the 100th anniversary of the harrowing Ludlow Massacre, one of the most significant events in Colorado history.
DENVER — Families who have owned and operated their Colorado farm or ranch for 100 years or more are encouraged to submit a nomination to receive a Colorado Centennial Farms award. Selected nominees will be honored at the 28th Annual Centennial Farms Celebration at the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo, Colo., in August 2014. Farmers and ranchers nominating their property for this award must submit an application providing information about the history of their farm and its buildings by close of business on Wednesday, April 30, 2014.
