The Stephen H. Hart Research Center, located on the 2nd floor of the History Colorado Center, is free of charge and open to the public via an appointment system. Archives, photographs, and artifacts are available (some restrictions apply) for viewing and research in the Janis Falkenberg Reading Room. Virtual assistance is also an option. Learn about connecting with the Research Center, appointments, and reproduction requests via the Table of Contents below.
Explore our online collection using a variety of search terms to find materials of interest. If you need assistance, please contact us via this form (please check your spam for response) and a staff member will respond by email. Please be advised that it may take several days for a response, and your patience is appreciated. The form is the best way to request assistance; however, you are welcome to call 303-866-2305 on Wednesday through Saturday, 10 am - 3 pm. Voicemails will also be returned on those days.
Once you have identified the items you wish to view using our online collection, you may fill out the Appointment Form to request a time to view the artifacts and perform your research in-person. Appointments must be requested at least 3 business days prior to the date of the appointment, so please plan accordingly.
Upon arrival at the History Colorado Center, inform the front desk of your appointment and they will direct you to the Research Center. There is no entry fee to visit the Research Center. Please familiarize yourself with the Reading Room Policies and Camera Use Policy prior to your visit.
Prior to entering the Reading Room, please deposit personal belongings into the lockers outside the room. See policies and procedures for items that are allowed in the Reading Room. Items too large for the lockers can be left with the Security Department on the 1st floor of the building. You will be asked to show identification at the Research Center Desk. Please have clean hands (no lotion or sanitizer) prior to handling materials. Once you have checked in at the desk, a staff member will show you to your table and research materials, and will be available to answer questions.
The Research Center provides several additional services, including reproductions of materials for both private research and use by either non-profit or for-profit organizations. You can learn more about reproduction services, fees, and our policies online via the link below.
