Craven-Shable Farm

Weld County

The Craven-Shable Farm in La Salle celebrates its centennial this year. The original 160 acre farm was purchased in 1890 by John J. Craven and his wife Julia. They raised 7 boys and 1 girl. After John's death in 1915, their son Clarence farmed the place until 1949 when his daughter, Mary Erma, and her husband, Delbert W. Shable took over the operation. Mary Erma and Delbert still live on the farm, raising corn, hay and cattle with their son, William and grandson, Brian. Several fine historic buildings still remain on the farm.
