When will I receive my membership materials?

Please allow 7 to 10 business days for us to process your membership and mail your materials. We email members on Friday with their digital membership card and Georgetown Loop Redemption Codes . 

If you visit any History Colorado museum in the meantime, just check in at the front desk. If you haven’t received your card and materials after 10 business days, please contact us at 303/866-3639 Monday-Friday 10am-5pm or email membership@state.co.us

I haven't heard from you, what do I do?

First, please check your spam, promotion, or social media tabs in your email. Sometimes our emails don’t make it into people’s inboxes. To ensure you are getting emails from us, please add membership@state.co.us to your contact list. If you think you’ve opted out of our emails, you can re-sign up here and check “membership communications.”

If I want to visit one of your locations before I receive my digital member card, what do I do?

If you purchased your membership online, you can show any of our front desk staff your confirmation email. If you bought over the phone or through the mail, you can still check in at the front desk at any of our museums for entry and they will look you up in our system.
 

Where do I find my membership number?

In any communication we send to you via email we will always include your member number so you can look there. Your membership number will also appear in your welcome letter and renewal notices, and it’s listed on the mailing label of The Colorado Magazine. If you can’t find your number, please contact us at 303/866-3639 Monday-Friday 10am-5pm or email membership@state.co.us.
 

Do I get a new membership card when I renew my membership?

We have moved to a digital membership card! You will get an updated digital card in your welcome email once you’ve renewed with your updated membership information, including if you’ve changed your membership level and your new expiration date.
 

I lost my membership card. Can you send me a new one?

We have moved to a digital membership card! If you’ve misplaced your member card, please contact us at 303/866-3639 Monday-Friday 10am-5pm or email membership@state.co.us and we will email you a new digital card. At this time we are unable to print physical cards so please bring your ID and check in at any of our front desks to visit our museums. 
 

Can I use my membership card for a school visit?

No, memberships cannot be used for admission for school field trips, school programs, group sales, or rental discounts.
 

Can I renew my membership online?

Yes, you can! Click here to renew online.
 

Can I purchase a membership as a gift?

Yes! Click here and click “Give this membership as a gift” next to the level that you would like to purchase.
 

Can I get a refund for my membership?

No, all memberships are nonrefundable and nontransferable. Part, or all, of your membership is considered a donation and cannot be refunded.
 

What is the tax deduction of my membership?

Your gift to History Colorado may be tax deductible. Consult your tax advisor. For more information about the fair market value of your membership, please click here.
 

How can I update my mailing address or email address with History Colorado?

You can update your contact information here, give us a call at 303-866-3639, or email us at membership@state.co.us.

I mailed in my renewal notice recently with payment but then received another notice in the mail. Did you receive my payment?

It’s possible the notice may have been sent before your payment arrived. To confirm that we’ve received payment, please call 303-866-3639 or email membership@state.co.us.
 

Can I upgrade to a higher membership level?

We are happy to assist members in expanding their membership benefits! To upgrade your membership please email membership@state.co.us or call us at 303-866-3689. You can also upgrade your membership during your next visit to our museums at the front desk. 

Can I add a donation when I purchase my membership?

Yes! If renewing or joining online, simply enter the amount you wish to add as a donation in the box marked “additional donation” when filling in your information. Or just mention it to our membership staff on the phone or in person at our museums. 
 

If I renew early, do I lose time on my membership?

No, your membership runs the entire calendar year from the date of purchase. If you renew early, the new membership will begin when your old membership expires.
 

Does my membership automatically renew?

No, if you want to renew your membership you can do so online, at any of our museum locations, or through the mail. 
 

How do I get just The Colorado Magazine?

If you just want The Colorado Magazine, we recommend the Subscription membership. Click here to buy a subscription. 

You may also buy individual magazines at our gift shops.
 

Do you offer any discounts on your memberships?

We offer discounts for only our general levels. If you are a senior or educator you can take $5 off your membership. Military and Veterans can take $10 off your membership. Colorado State Employees get 20% off. If you fall under any of these categories, please call us 303/866-3639 Monday-Friday 10am-5pm, email membership@state.co.us, or visit any of our locations to do it in-person.
 

Georgetown Loop Railroad Benefits

 

How do I make reservations for the Georgetown Loop Railroad®?

We’ve made it easier for you! Now with your Redemption Codes you can reserve your tickets online by visiting here. If you’d like to reserve over the phone, please call the Georgetown Loop Railroad directly at 1-888-456-6777 to make reservations. You will need your membership number and redemption code(s) when calling. 
 

I saw that it takes 7-10 business days to process membership, but I want to go to Georgetown Loop Railroad sooner. What should I do?

Georgetown Loop requires reservations in advance. If you want to get your tickets sooner, we recommend calling Georgetown Loop Railroad at 1-888-456-6777 to buy your membership and make your reservation at the same time.

Please note that if you buy at Georgetown Loop Railroad, discounts don’t apply.
 

How do the Georgetown Loop Railroad Redemption Code(s) work?

Click here to start your reservation. You will copy and paste all the redemption code(s) you want to use into the box and click submit. Search for the date that works for you and book your tickets. If you are having issues, please call Georgetown Loop Railroad at 1-888-456-6777. 
 

Where do I find my Georgetown Loop Railroad Redemption Code(s)

When are my Georgetown Loop Railroad tickets valid?

Georgetown Loop is open seasonally, usually from April through December. Depending on when your membership is purchased, your tickets will be valid for the most recent season unless otherwise noted.  The Redemption Code(s) included in your History Colorado Membership are valid for only coach seats on train rides before the holiday train. Mine tours and holiday trains cost extra. Please note that your Georgetown Loop Tickets are on a use it or lose it system and can’t be extended another year.
 

What do I get with my Georgetown Loop Railroad tickets

Your passes are a $30+ value and are valid for a coach train ride. You are welcome to upgrade your tickets and members receive discounts on upgrades.

Note: you are allowed to use vouchers for the open car portion of the Christmas train. If you would like to upgrade your ticket to the indoor coach, you will need to speak with the Georgetown Loop Railroad employees and pay the difference in fee. You are able to upgrade online as well. 
 

Am I the only one who can use my Georgetown Loop Railroad tickets, or can I give them to someone else?

You can give them to someone else! Members don’t have to be present with guests using the complimentary ticket(s). The person using the tickets must present your membership number at the Georgetown Loop Railroad when redeeming the tickets. 
 

My passes are expired, what can I do?

We do send out reminder emails because time and space are limited during the holiday season especially. Georgetown Loop Railroad is willing to extend tickets when we send those unused to Georgetown Loop Railroad mid October.
 

I renewed in October, did I miss the riding season?

Your vouchers are good through next year's season. Again, Georgetown Loop Railroad is willing to reactivate once and then set expectations.

Do I receive museum discounts with my membership?

Yes, in addition to free admission to the History Colorado Center and our Community Museums around the state, your membership also includes discounts on popular events and programs; the History Colorado Center’s Rendezvous Cafe; the gift shops at our sites around the state and online; and photo-reproduction and research services at our Stephen H. Hart Research Center.
 

How many children are allowed into the museum with my membership?

Children under the age of 18 are free at all History Colorado museums. 
 

What are the Community Museums my membership gives me access to?

With a full History Colorado membership, you gain access to the History Colorado Center and Center for Colorado Women's History at Byers-Evans House in Denver, El Pueblo History Museum, Fort Garland Museum & Cultural Center, Fort Vasquez, Healy House & Dexter Cabin, Trinidad History Museum, and the Ute Indian Museum. What’s the Time Traveler Program, and how can I take advantage of it if I’m traveling to another state?

Time Travelers is a reciprocal membership network for historical museums and societies throughout the United States. Benefits may include free or reduced admission, gift shop discounts, free parking, and much more at participating museums and historical sites. For more information and a list of participating institutions, click here. We recommend calling the museum you plan to visit before your trip to ensure that this information is still correct at their site.
 

How can I receive Smithsonian Magazine as part of my History Colorado membership?

All of our supporter levels–Explorer, Preservationist, Historian, Curator, and Colorado!–receive Smithsonian reciprocal benefits. If you’d like to upgrade your membership to receive this benefit, please contact us at 303/866-3639 Monday-Friday 10am-5pm or email membership@state.co.us.
 

What are the opening hours of the Members Lounge at the History Colorado Center?

The Members Lounge is open Monday through Friday from 10 am to 5 pm. It is not open on Saturday and Sunday. Please ask the front desk staff for directions to the Members Lounge.
 

How often do I get The Colorado Magazine?

The Colorado Magazine is quarterly and based on season. If you think you haven’t received your magazine, please contact us at 303/866-3639 Monday-Friday 10am-5pm or email membership@state.co.us.
