Designers of Colorado - Biographical Series
Thousands of designers have shaped Colorado's built environment. Some received formal training in design and construction, others practiced centuries old traditions passed from one generation to the next.
Biographies
No guide to these individuals could ever hope to be all inclusive. This Designers of Colorado biographical series focuses on individual architects, landscape architects, and urban planners who practiced professionally in Colorado after 1860. In addition to a short biographical sketch, a list of credited buildings, structures, and sites is provided. This information is based largely on the files in the Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation, particularly National Register and State Register nomination documentation and the Site Files cultural resource database. The narratives are in PDF format.
Even in the case of the most well-known and well-documented Colorado architects, new research regularly uncovers additional biographical information and identifies previously unknown works. We welcome information, corrections, and comments regarding the architects recognized here, or information concerning any of Colorado's architects.
