The Fisher Ranch, located in Ouray County, dates back to 1893 when Edwin C. Fisher pre-empted land on Log Hill Mesa north of Ridgeway. The ranch was passed down to the current owners, Edwin & Linda lngo from Ed's mother, Clara, and uncle, Byran, who were the children of Edwin Fisher and his wife, Della. The ranch has grown in size over the years and today specializes in commercial Beefmaster/Red Angus/ Hereford cattle. The Fisher Ranch is also receiving the historic structure award for the preservation of severalearly buildings, including a 1910 granary.

Ridgway's Lone Pine Ranch celebrates its centennial this year. The ranch got its start in 1891, when John Kettle purchased 160 acres of farmland in Ouray County just west of Ridgway. John's son, William R. Kettle, who was just 6 years old when his dad purchased the ranch, added to it in 1917 by homesteading an additional 400 acres of pasture at the foot of Mt. Sneffles. William's daughter, Faye, along with her husband, Davis Wolford, now own and operate the ranch.

The Fournier Ranch near Ridgway also got its start  just 100 years ago. It began as a 160 acre ranch operated by Louis and Josephine Fournier who passed on its operation to their son, Eugene Fournier and his wife Gladys. Through a lot of hard work over the years, the ranch has grown to include nearly 1800 acres today. It is still operated as a cattle ranch by Gary Fournier, the grandson of the folks who started it all back a century ago.

Acquired in 1886 from the US government, the Smith Brothers Ranch in Montrose originally consisted of 280 acres. Cattle and horses were raised as well as livestock feed. A machine shed dating back to 1925 is the oldest building still standing on the ranch.

The Humphrey Ranch in Ouray County was homesteaded in 1887 by William Henry Humphrey. The original farm consisted of 240 acres. A sawmill constructed on the property cut all of the wood and logs for the original buildings. The ranch has always raised hay, grain and cattle.

Construction documents will be developed for the rehabilitation of the basement level and east elevation of the historic hospital building as prioritized in the SHF-funded Historic Structures Assessment (Project 14-HA-007).

Completed in 1900, the 1½-story residence is a vernacular wood frame building with Neoclassical style elements that are considered unusual for Ouray County.  Classical columns accent the front porch. 

Considered to be a good local example of the Queen Anne style, the one-story brick house, with a corner porch, was designed by Gus Kullerstrand of Ouray.

Significant for its role in the social and cultural heritage of the town of Ridgway, the simple one-story brick building was designed by Gus Kullerstrand and built in 1915 by Louis Sherbino.  Over the years, it functioned as a movie theater, a dance hall, a skating rink, and a community center. 

Constructed in 1910, the dwelling’s two-story square plan and hipped roof is typical of the Foursquare building type.  Clad with its original tin siding, the house also features interior and exterior spindle work characteristic of the builder Andrew Rasmussen.
