The original farm was homesteaded by John H. and Nell Fitz-Randolph Glassey in 1885. The crops were diversified - 40 acres of developed meadowland, barley, sugar beets, corn, alfalfa, and potatoes. In 1968, 137 American Elm trees fell victim to Dutch Elm Disease. Although the name of the farm remains the same, the remaining trees are Ash and Black Locust along with some Maple. The Black Locust trees were planted in 1897. John H. Glassey was very proud of his trees which is why the farm bears the name “The Elms” today.
