Rufus Morison purchased a 3⁄4 section plus 80 acres plot of Logan County land near Fleming in September of 1908. When the remaining 80 acres were purchased in 1943, the entire section came under Morison ownership. A steam tractor and sod plows broke up most of the land where corn, beans, wheat, oats, barley and millet have been raised. Ownership passed to son Donald in 1947. Donald's son Kay started farming the land in 1958 and inherited the land in 1978. Though once treeless, Kay has planted over 1,000 trees around the farmstead.

In April of 1907 Phillip and Emma Fassler acquired what is now the Fassler Ranch. The deal involved trading a flour mill in Cherokee, Iowa, for 1400 acres in Washington County near Akron. Oldest son Fredrick moved to the land first but by 1909 the entire family was in place. The ranch passed on to Frederick in 1943 and then to Fred Jr. in 1956, who was born on the ranch. Over the years the Fasslers have raised championship cattle and quarter horses and have been involved with the local Farm Bureau, stock growers and Cattleman's Associations.

In 1908 Steve and Anna Sajbel homesteaded 160 acres near Matheson Colorado in Elbert County. The land passed down to the youngest of five children Margie Sajbel and husband Jack in 1946 when they took over operation of the farm. The land has now been passed down to their four children Madeline, James, Joe and Frank and is run as the Drotar Family LLC. The property has been expanded to 960 acres and is used to raise cattle and wheat and two historic barns are still in use.

The original 480 acres of the Clements-Pease ranch in El Paso County east of Fountain was homesteaded in 1907 by Oliver "Boone" Clements and daughters Alice and Georgia. Son Ralph would eventually inherit Boone's land and bought out his sister's shares. He would later acquire more land increasing the ranch to its present 2,259 acres. Cattle and horses have been raised in conjunction with dry-land farming operations - which was a real struggle during the depression.

The Gammon family has a long history in eastern El Paso County dating back to 1874 when Julian Gammon first settled along the Big Sandy Creek northwest of the present town of Calhan. A few years later the OZ ranch was settled near Ramah. There Julian and his wife Roxie had five children who, along with Roxie, set up the Gammon Land and Cattle Company upon the death of Julian in 1902. As the children grew older the land was split among them and though much of the land was sold off, son George retained his acreage that is still in use today as a working ranch.

160 acres near Walsenburg in Huerfano County were homesteaded by Bartolo and Maria Andreatta in 1904. Prior to that, cost-sharing with their neighbors allowed them to build a heard of cattle. They also ran a boarding house at the Rouse Mine and provided chickens, eggs, milk and vegetables from the ranch. Surrounding property was acquired bringing the acreage to 440 acres. Eventually the land was passed down to son Angelo and later to his son Dominic.

One year after visiting Yuma County, Archibald Wilson and son Frank came back to stay and homesteaded eleven miles north of Wray in 1907. The land and improvements were valued at $100 and Archibald paid $3.40 in property taxes in 1908. When Frank came of age he too took out a claim on land adjoining his father where for the first few years he lived in a dug-out room next to his windmill. A few years after marrying Dorothy Klein, Frank bought out his father moved his house next door and joined it to Archibalds. Together Frank and Dorothy raised eight children.

After immigrating from Austria, Peter Stanko Sr. worked in the Pennsylvania coal fields and ran a saloon in Walsenberg before deciding to investigate the Steamboat Springs area in Routt County. Here he purchased 160 acres in 1907 from Logan Crawford, the son of the Steamboat Springs town founder. With the subsequent purchase of adjoining land Peter and his wife Anna were soon running a 550 acre grain and cattle operation with the early products being wheat, barley and oats.

In the late 1700's, the Souser family immigrated from France to Pennsylvania, and eventually relocated to Ft. Wayne, Indiana, where Clarence John Souser was born on Nov. 18, 1885. The Souser brothers, Orlando, Melvin, and Clarence, and their father, landed in Paullina, Iowa, where they became "Breeders and Shippers of Pure Bred Chester White Hogs". Moving west to, Colorado, they established four adjoining homesteads in Washington County near Otis, Colorado in 1907. In time, Clarence was able to buy out his father and brothers. The Sousers still own this land today.

With a flip of a coin, Charlie Smelker and his brother-in-laws decided that Colorado would be the place to investigate homesteading. By 1907 he had laid a claim on a piece of land thirteen miles south of Stratton in Kit Carson County and began preparing for his family by constructing a frame house which is still part of the current residence. Wife Luella and the four children soon arrived by train and the family farm began to take shape. At first there was no well and water had to be hauled in two barrels attached to their horse 'Fritz" from neighboring farms for several years.
