Bridge replaced

This collection of buildings located in the Gold Hill Mining District dated from as early as 1877. 

The Columbian School was associated with the educational development of several generations of Las Animas area children.  Beginning in 1917 and continuing through 2003, the building served as one of the community’s two elementary schools.  The school building was a good local example of the Mission style as adapted to a school.  In addition to its use of such character-defining elements as the curvilinear gables and parapets, and the arcaded walkway, the school was particularly noteworthy for its use of an interior courtyard.

Willowcroft Manor was listed in the Colorado State Register in March 1993.  The six buildings comprising the property were nominated under for their association with Joseph W. Bowles, a prominent rancher and politician who served two terms in the state legislature, as well as significance in the areas of agriculture, architecture, and exploration/settlement.  The 1884 Willowcroft Manor was one of the earliest and largest ranches in the South Platte River Valley.

Destroyed by fire in 1976

Reportedly the last bridge by the prolific Pueblo Bridge Company, this 1932 two-ribbed, reinforced concrete, open spandrel deck arch in Fountain Canyon was designed by King Burghardt.

The 1930 Yuma Public Library played an important role in the social history of Yuma.  Construction of the building was spearheaded by the Yuma Woman’s Club.

The Schramm Building-Sheedy Hall is significant for playing an essential role in Yuma’s commercial history. 

John Lett constructed the simple two-story wood frame building with its inviting wrap-around porch in 1916.

With its ground floor dedicated to commercial endeavors, the second-floor of this simple frame building functioned as the first meeting hall in Otis--the scene of musicals, Chautauqua events, and public forums.
