Willowcroft Manor

Arapahoe County

Willowcroft Manor was listed in the Colorado State Register in March 1993.  The six buildings comprising the property were nominated under for their association with Joseph W. Bowles, a prominent rancher and politician who served two terms in the state legislature, as well as significance in the areas of agriculture, architecture, and exploration/settlement.  The 1884 Willowcroft Manor was one of the earliest and largest ranches in the South Platte River Valley.

The two-story lava stone residence was a fine example of Queen Anne architecture by one of Denver’s leading contemporary architects, Robert S. Roeschlaub.  Roeschlaub also designed the Central City Opera House and Trinity United Methodist Church in Denver.  The other Willowcroft buildings included the main barn, smokehouse, caretaker's house, garage, and horse barn.  In 2010, Colorado Preservation, Inc. (CPI) listed the property on its Endangered Places list.  In April 2013, Taylor Morrison purchased the parcel as well as another to the north with a plan to construct patio homes and one large estate home on site.  The Denver Post reported in June 2013 that Willowcroft Manor had been demolished.
