The other Gustafson farm we are honoring today belongs to Barbara's husband, E. R. Gustafson. This farm could be called the Wilson/Gustafson Farm, because it got its start when T.H. Wilson and his wife Mary built a sod home and began to homestead the area in 1884. They received the patent on the land in 1892 and in the same year moved to a more permanent house. The farm was passed on to their son, A.J. Wilson, who married Nellie Brown, the daughter of W.W. Brown. Brown, if you will remember, was the man who started the last farm we were talking about.

The Grein Farm, which encompasses 360 acres in Weld County near Brighton, is another farm celebrating its centennial this year. The farm got its start in 1892 when it was purchased by John Delventhal and his brother Herman. In 1894, John Delventhal married Anna Windler, and raised 8 children on the farm. The farm was passed on to their daughter, Minnie Delventhal Grein, after her marriage in 1931. Today, the farm is owned by Minnie's son, Ivan, and his wife, Joan; they still raise wheat, corn and alfalfa and keep some of the land in pasture for their dairy operation in Adams County.

The Goemmer Land & Livestock Company encompasses nearly 5000 acres in the area around La Veta in Huerfano County. The ranch got its start in 1876 when John Goemmer, a blacksmith by trade, came to La Veta from Illinois to establish a homestead. John's sons, Pete and Gus grew up to start their own homesteads in the area, and the ranch continuing to grow over the years. Today the Goemmer Land & Livestock  Company is owned and operated by John Goemmer's great grandson, Lowell Goemmer, and his family.

The Flick Ranch encompasses over 300 acres along Quartz Creek near Parlin in Gunnison County. The Ranch was established when John Madison Flick came to the Gunnison country hoping to find gold, but instead found his fortune in the rich soils of Quartz Creek. John began homesteading in 1881 and a year later was joined by his bride, Susan McCracken. The lush Quartz Creek pastures have, from the beginning, supported a prosperous cattle operation, along with other livestock and bountiful family gardens.

The 5 M Farm, also located just outside of Greeley, encompasses 240 acres of land irrigated through the Cache La Poudre Irrigation Co. and two adjudicated wells. The farm was established in 1891 by Henry C. Watson, who first came to Greeley in 1871 with the original colonists. Henry Watson was said to have planted the first potatoes in the area; and potatoes were raised on the farm continuously until the 1960s. Today, the main crops are sugar beets, pinto beans, corn and onions.

The Emerson Farms near Greeley in Weld County is celebrating its centennial this year. The farm was started in 1892 when George Emerson purchased 160 acres from Cyrus W. Matteson who was the farm's original homesteader in the Union Colony in 1871. In 1903 the farm was increased to its present size of 240 acres. Since then the farm has been home to four generations of Emersons, who in the early years raised potatoes, sugar beets and onions. Today, alfalfa, field corn and pinto beans are the main crops.

The Elkhorn Ranch encompasses over 2000 acres of prime farm and pasture lands in the San Luis valley near Del Norte. The ranch began in November of 1886 when Levi Bodley Wilson purchased the Breen, Lovato, Sandoval, Myers, and Garcia homesteads. His son, Tunis Van Houten Wilson, moved onto the ranch where he built the original house; raised grain, potatoes and hay; and named the place the Elkhorn Ranch. The Ranch is currently owned by Levi Wilson's grandson, Tunis Frank Hanna, who is helped with operations by Levi's great grandson, Robert Hanna, and two great great grandsons, Tunis W.

The Cawlfield Farms, located just outside of Pueblo, got started in 1891 when Sterling Cawlfield bought the original 216 acres from the Travellers Insurance Company. Shortly after that, he purchased additional lands bringing the total acreage to 440 acres. At Sterling's death in 1947, the farm was given to his son Woodrow who still lives there with his wife Loreen in the original 1903 farmhouse. The Cawlfield Farm is also being given the historic structures award from the National Trust, for the preservation of this original residence as well as three other historic buildings.

The ZF Ranch dates back to 1885 when Nels Johnson came to Colorado from Mt. Pleasant, Utah to homestead 160 acres just east of Mesa. Nels passed the ranch to his son, Arthur, who, in turn, passed it to his daughter,  Bertha A. Lloyd. The ranch is now owned and operated by Bertha's son William R. Stoddard and his wife Heather, where they raise beef cattle and horses and a crop of hay.

The Wommer Ranch is located in La Plata County near Bayfield. It consists of 220 acres which is being devoted to the raising of cattle and hay. The ranch was first homesteaded by Henry Reich in 1883. The current owner and operator of the ranch, Edwin C. Wommer, is great-grandson of the original homesteaders. Ed Plans to pass the ranch on to his son, Monte, when he can no longer work it himself.
