The homestead house, constructed in 1933 by a father and son, illustrates building techniques reflecting the influence and traditions of the Baxstroms’ grandfather, a well-known local mason.

Constructed by the American Bridge Company in 1924, this replacement bridge over the Blue River north of Dillon consists of a rigid-connected, eight-panel steel Parker pony truss with buttresses. 

The school building served as the educational center for this high mountain mining community from its construction in 1884 up until school consolidation brought about its closure in 1958.  The building embodies the distinctive characteristics of the one-room schoolhouse building type. 

Soda Creek Ranch was of the region’s earliest homesteads beginning in the late 1880s.  It was used as a dairy and hay ranch through early era and later as a Hereford cattle ranch with continued hay production into the early 1970s.

Located on a river terrace, this prehistoric site is significant for its numerous occupational components, extensive time range, and evidence suggesting a variety of cultural activities.

Glen Cove Lodge is associated with the development of automobile related tourist facilities along Pikes Peak Highway.  The property has been owned by the US Forest Service since 1927. 

Constructed in 1900, the route began as the Colorado Springs & Cripple Creek District Railway.  Colorado Springs coal mine owner and cattle breeder W.D. Corley converted the abandoned rail line during the early 1920s into an auto toll road known as the Corley Mountain Highway. 

Built in 1887, this wood frame rural schoolhouse with an L-shaped floor plan received an addition in 1889.  Its enclosed entry is topped by a bell tower with a pyramidal roof that includes flared eaves. 

The property was once the headquarters for one of the largest cattle empires in Colorado and Wyoming.  Thomas White was the first to file on the land where the primarily log buildings and structures are located.

The 1910 Lay School is significant providing education to the students of Lay and the surrounding area for nearly fifty years. Additionally, the school is important in the area of social history as it served the community as the primary gathering place for various social functions from its construction date through the 1980s.
