The original 160-acre Clem Ranch, located near Parachute, was purchased by James V. Clem in 1902, and was joined with land purchased by Henry C. Clem in 1910. Over the years, the ranch produced hay, pasture, cattle, horses,and sheep. The original brand is still in the family, registered by James V. and John J. Clem in April 1903. The ranch is now operated by James V. Clem’s great-nephew and family, who live in the original 1914 residence.

In 1905 Sidney Bert Potter and his father-in-law, Richard S. Becktell, traveled from Omaha, Nebraska to Rifle, Colorado in search of a dry climate to help the Potters’ first child recover from tuberculosis. They purchased land in the Cache Creek drainage area and moved their entire family out in 1906.The ranch’s products were hay, small grains, Percheron and saddle horses, cattle, hogs, apples, and peaches.

Built in 1909, Cobblehurst is listed as an excellent example of a Craftsman Bungalow, a style that emerged from the Arts and Crafts movement and became highly popular in Colorado and across the nation during the first three decades of the twentieth century. While its designer and builder are unknown, the house retains a very good degree of integrity and exhibits fundamental elements of the style. These include the extensive use of native materials, primarily milled lumber and river cobble, that tie the building to its setting.

The Rifle Lodge No. 129, A.F & A.M. (Ancient Free & Accepted Masons), also known as the Rifle Masonic Lodge, is a two-story brick building built in 1914 located along Railroad Avenue in Rifle, CO. Rifle Lodge No. 129, A.F & A.M. is significant for its long-standing role as a place for fraternal organizational meetings and public and social gatherings for the larger community of Rifle. Additionally, for several months in 1918, the building also served as a temporary hospital for patients afflicted by the influenza pandemic of 1918-19.

This 1908 Hipped Roof Box form house is one of only a few examples in Silt and the only one with a large decorative cupola, much larger than the typical cupola.

Constructed in 1940, the building is the most detailed and complete of the five identified, small Colonial Revival influenced post offices in Colorado.  Listed under U.S. Post Offices in Colorado Thematic Resource.

The bridge includes two different types of spans, the Pennsylvania and the Parker.  Charles G. Sheely completed this pin-connected, steel twelve-panel Pennsylvania and ten-panel Parker through truss in 1909.

Remaining on the site are a concrete pumphouse and forebay, along with supporting structures such as a cistern and concrete support blocks for conduits.

The Wasson-McKay Place is significant as representing good examples of Pioneer Log and modest Late Victorian architecture. The circa-1900 Pioneer Log icehouse/cabin with whole log walls and hog trough construction exemplifies typical construction techniques of outbuildings and early settlers’ cabins in the area.

The Western Hotel provided area residents, visitors, and guests with accommodations as a restaurant, saloon, soda bottling shop, grocery store and rooming house before operating as a working-class hotel.
