In business since 1909, Red Mountain Ranches was originally a cattle, hog, fruit, berry, and tomato operation. The Morris Family acquired the business in the 1950s and currently the crops raised are primarily apples and some peaches, along with apple cider production.  At the present time, the 3rd, 4th, and 5th generations of both the Morris and Hendrickson Families all work together through Red Mountain Ranches.

Cornelius and Lillie Hendrickson moved to the farm in 1918 and purchased it in 1921, and the Hendrickson Family has continued to farm the land through five generations. They raise apples, peaches, and pasture.

In 1907, Frank and Maggie Burns sold their Iowa land, loaded the family and belongings in a railroad car and made the move to Grand Junction to grow peaches.  Their daughter, Lois, remembered that not a sprig of grass was on the land when the trees were planted.  In 1918, Lois married Nelson Newton Phillips and they bought a fifteen acre pear orchard.  That orchard increased in acreage, included peaches, pears and apples and stayed in the family until the 1990's.  By the 1980’s, Grand Junction was growing and the farm was engulfed by development.  The third generati

The Paonia First Christian Church is an excellent example of Romanesque style church as interpreted by local craftsmen.  The building, along with several other churches, is in the heart of the residential area of Paonia, which has a long-standing religious identity marked by the high density of churches in the small town.

An excellent example of the architecture of the Late Victorian period, the 1897-1901 Mathews House is the most intact Queen Anne-style house in the Paonia area, as well as one of the largest and most ornate.
