Waterfall Ranch, named for the waterfall that cascades down the steep red rocks behind the site of the original cabin, was sold to John James Zink in 1917. The land proved abundant from the start, yielding great crops of potatoes.
Annie Mason, grandmother to current owner Karen Zink, filed the homestead for Sunnyside Farm in 1900, then had to dig a mile long ditch by hand to bring water in order to farm.
Edwonne McCaw came out to Colorado having heard of the greatness of livestock and land opportunities in the San Juan Basin from his brothers. He obtained some land on the west side of the Florida River at the head of Cottonwood Draw. In 1913 he exchanged land titles with neighboring rancher and moved to the area that is now known as McCaw Mesa.
In 1916 Arthur and Dovie Jones purchased their first piece of farmland in the Pine River Valley, east of Ignacio, Colorado. There they had two daughters, Alberta and Evelyn.
In 1913 Gustaf Miller acquired 240 acres near Ignacio in La Plata County. Around 1916, he built a cabin and cleared the land to plant crops and grain once he received his patent in 1918.
