Edwonne McCaw came out to Colorado having heard of the greatness of livestock and land opportunities in the San Juan Basin from his brothers. He obtained some land on the west side of the Florida River at the head of Cottonwood Draw. In 1913 he exchanged land titles with neighboring rancher and moved to the area that is now known as McCaw Mesa.

Ed split the land between his two sons, Wayne and Forrest.  When Ed passed away, Wayne and his wife Blanche obtained the home property and brand. The ranch has now been run by four generations.  The original 1909 house still stands with an even older plum tree out front producing plums as it did when Edwonne and wife Rebeka established McCaw Mesa.
