The 1905 carousel is a rare surviving example of a stationary menagerie carousel built by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company for Denver’s Elitch Gardens. 

Constructed in 1926, this architecturally significant, 2½ story red brick building occupies a prominent location at the south end of Burlington’s commercial district. 

Constructed between 1938 and 1940 by the Works Progress Administration (WPA), the Burlington Gymnasium represents an important record of the federal relief programs administered on Colorado’s eastern plains during the Great Depression.  Its construction provided much needed employment in Kit Carson County and it is the only extant work relief construction project remaining from the New Deal era in Burlington.  The building exemplifies the efforts of the WPA to boost moral during the Depression through the construction of buildings that could be enjoyed by the entire community.&nbs

Jacob Hasart Sr., a German-Russian from Lichtenthal, initially immigrated to Idalia with his family in 1889.  After moving around for a number of years Jacob purchased the original section of Hasart farm in 1915.

Charles T. Neally and Lizzie Agnue Paul homesteaded in the Beaver Valley Community northeast of Burlington, Colorado and acquired their property under the Homestead Act of 1862. They built their home out of rocks and sod, but only the foundations remain today.

In 1899, Christian Gramm began homesteading 554 acres of grass, wheat and feed. 

Comprising 320 acres in Kit Carson County near Flagler, the original Gering Farm was homesteaded by Edward Gering and patented on July 22, 1913.  Edward and wife Edith raised four children on the farm and expanded their acreage through the years.

Theodore and Francis Greenwood settled on 160 Kit Carson County acres in 1908 and received their patent a few years later.  The tax in 1909 was $11.40 and was made in two payments.

In 1887 Albert N. Corliss (known to friends and family as A.N.) left Vermont at the age of 23 to start a new life in Colorado.  By 1892 he had married Lillian May Yale and three years later took up a homestead on the Republican River in Kit Carson County.  The area was known as Tuttle and had artesian wells, the South Fork of the Republican River, and several natural lakes on the property.
