The Starkville Central School is important for its role in educating Starkville’s children from 1881 to 1965. 

Built in 1902 by longtime Brush merchant William Knearl, the Knearl Block and Opera House/Desky Hotel anchors the south end of Brush’s main commercial thoroughfare and is significant for its association with the history of commerce in Brush.

Founded in 1888, the Fetz/Keller Ranch Headquarters is an excellent and particularly well-preserved example of a rural agricultural headquarters, reflecting a diversified farming and ranching operation that probably peaked in production during the 1910s and early 1920s.

The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway was Lamar’s link to the outside world and construction of the AT&SF Passenger Depot in 1907 was a symbol of the town’s economic success and stature as a regional hub.

This ca. 1880, small, one-story log building served as Junction City/Garfield’s first school until 1882 and then as a cabin housing persons drawn to the area in search of wealth from the mining industry.

Completed in 1923, the David Hull Holmes House is an excellent example of the work of master architect David Hull Holmes. Born in 1874, Holmes designed over 30 buildings in Tucson and San Diego between 1904 and 1917, a number of which are listed in the National Register.

The ca. 1876 Dunraven Cottage was built as a mountain retreat for Windham Thomas Wyndham-Quin, an Irish aristocrat and the 4th Earl of Dunraven, after he acquired close to 5,000 acres in Estes Park.

The 1909 Gas Creek School served as Chaffee County School District No. 20’s only school from 1909 to 1958.

The former Spear Cabin/Turret Post Office is located in the unincorporated community of Turret in eastern Chaffee County.

The Patterson House is important as a local example of the Eastlake style, a popular Victorian-era variation of the Queen Anne style, characterized by a steeply pitched roof with multiple gables and intricate wood ornamentation.
