The 2030 Colorado Preservation Plan, Expanding the Narrative, focuses the collaborative effort to preserve Colorado’s historic built environment, archaeological sites, cultural heritage, and significant landscapes. With an emphasis on how preservation can support the social, economic, and environmental priorities of Coloradans, this plan outlines a bold vision for actualizing expansive and just preservation efforts that are driven by the voices of Colorado’s people and communities.
Anyone can be a preservationist; and this plan acts as a guide to continue to build Colorado’s preservation ecosystem and align efforts so that preservation work is increasingly relevant to all Coloradans. Implementing the strategies and accomplishing the goals listed in this plan will require a collective effort, leveraged resources, and cross-sector partnerships that include government agencies, nonprofits, academic institutions, community groups, local residents, and preservation advocates.
The State Preservation Plan is updated every five years, and was developed through statewide community engagement that included 22 public meetings in 14 localities, along with outreach to the now 51 Tribes that call all or part of Colorado their ancestral land, culminating in a survey with over 200 responses.
