Visitor Services Representative Volunteer

Providing customer service to all museum and gallery visitors (informing the public about the museum tour schedule, giving directions, suggesting sightseeing opportunities and restaurants) Answering questions about gallery displays as well as the history of the homes and buildings.

  • Assisting customers in the gift shop (answering questions, wrapping gifts)
  • Operating the cash register for all sales of tickets and goods.
  • Recording all visitation and sales accurately and thoroughly.
  • Answering the phone
  • Taking reservations for group tours and special events; taking credit card payments over the phone

Desired Skills: Visitor Center representatives should be organized, personable, and comfortable multitasking. All Visitor Center representatives are required to use office equipment such as a cash register, phone, and computer. This job might also entail light office work such as filing, collating, and paper cutting.

Available hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Job Description:
Tour guides at the Trinidad History Museum lead all visitors through the city block of our historic homes and gardens and provide tours for groups of 1 - 15 people. Each shift lasts between 2-4 hours. The maximum number of tours a guide will provide in one day is two.

Desired Skills:
Tour guides should have a knowledge of and passion for history, feel comfortable speaking in front of groups, and be physically able to stand, walk and talk for up to three hours in a row.

Desired schedule:
Programs are offered Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. year-round, but are very popular in the months of April and May. Most docents work 1 - 2 hour shifts per month in the slower season and 4- 8 shifts per month in April and May.

Job Description:
Education docents work with our school programs which are interactive and hands-on. Docents guide students through the houses and gardens and facilitate their learning by instructing them through the provided material. On-Site Training is Provided.

Desired Skills:
Education docents should feel comfortable talking to large groups of children, physically able to walk and talk for up to three hours in a row, and able to monitor the collections closely while simultaneously giving a tour.

Trinidad History Museum Tea Volunteer

Available hours are Wednesdays 11am-1pm and by request, typically 11:30 to 3:30.

Job Description:
The Trinidad History Museum seeks volunteers to assist with our seasonal and special themed teas. Teas are a favorite program among members of History Colorado and help serve the mission of the Trinidad History Museum by encouraging visitors to share the experience of this historic home and fascinating time period with friends and family. Themed teas may also include programs on special topics in Southern Colorado’s history and cultural heritage.

Duties Include:

  • preparing a welcoming space for teas by setting the tables and arranging decorations
  • welcoming guests and answering questions-tea volunteers will have opportunities to tour the museum and learn more about its history and décor
  • plating tea and serving, assisting in clearing tables, food is prepared by a caterer and museum staff moves tables and chairs and finishes the major cleaning

Desired Skills:
Tea servers should be comfortable standing for long periods and handling food. They should be personable and enjoy serving as a host for events. Tea servers should be comfortable working in a team and managing a time line.

Teen Museum Corps

The Trinidad History Museum is looking for high school students to assist the museum with their summer break camp. Each member of Museum Corps must be able to commit to an average of 6 hours/week between June 12 - August 4, 2023. Participants will receive a $200 stipend, community service hours, a t-shirt, and also earn lots of great real-world experience and over 50 hours for school-related community service credit.

All qualified applicants will be invited to interview.

Participants who are selected for the Teen Museum Corps will be required to attend an orientation on June 9th from 10 AM - 4 PM.
